Abidjan and the Plateau

05°19′N 004°02′W · Autonomous District of Abidjan

Côte d'Ivoire's largest city and economic capital, built around the Ébrié lagoon with the high-rise business district of Le Plateau at its core.

Abidjan's Le Plateau district is the city's central business area, known for its modern towers and the landmark St Paul's Cathedral, designed by the Italian architect Aldo Spirito and dedicated by Pope John Paul II in 1985. On the city's northern edge lies Banco National Park, one of the few dense primary tropical rainforests within an urban area, established as a national park in 1953. The city spreads across several districts linked by bridges over the lagoon.
