Korhogo and Senufo Country

Korhogo is the largest city in northern Côte d'Ivoire and is regarded as a capital of the Senufo people, with tradition attributing its founding to a 14th-century Senufo leader named Nangui. It sits on a pre-colonial trade route toward the Atlantic coast and is overlooked by Mont Korhogo to the southwest. The area is renowned for its wood-carving quarter and for Korhogo cloth, a hand-painted cotton textile. The nearby village of Fakaha is a noted centre for this painted-cloth tradition.
